Meier Paul Real Estate and Chelsea Meyer | designer + property stylist, bring you design tips and no fail methods to make any space feel more like home.

Spring is a fantastic time to revamp your current décor and add some fresh style to your home and property. Here’s some simple tips on how to do just that.

DECLUTTER

The best way to start revitalising your space is to declutter! before you can focus on décor and styling, you need a tidy slate. If this sounds daunting, focus on one room at a time. Styling décor is the finishing touch so if these is limited space these items can do more harm than good. A good rule to stick with; groups of 3 items only. Any additional tag a-longs can create a cluttered appearance.

TAKE INVENTORY

Before you run out and buy all the latest cushions and vases, take inventory of what you already have. We’ll tell you later how you may be able to reuse them. Pulling out all the items you may have stored over the last few years may feel overwhelming but it’s the most cost effective way to begin to restyle your home. A written list or a photo library will provide a new inventory to work within the next steps.

INSPIRATION

Interior design trends change constantly and so does our personal taste. It’s impossible to keep up with the retail shop windows – they are styled weekly to keep customers returning to their polished showrooms. Instead, take these displays as inspiration! Create a small concept of what you’d like your home to feel like. Make note of colours, textures or patterns you see displayed that speak to you. Sites like Pinterest are fabulous for creating inspiration boards to keep all your ideas in one place.

FRESH STYLING

Bring your inventory list and your inspiration concept together. Look to see what you currently have that still fits with the style you are aiming for. Items like pillows can be reused simply by recovering in the colours or textures you’ve chosen in your new concept. Popular Spring hues are typically pastels, but we encourage updating to vivid greens or blues so that they outlast the season change. If it’s time to buy some new pieces, opt for quality and remember your concept so that all your new décor items work together to create a harmonious feel. If you’re looking for a fool proof option that packs a punch, a fresh coat of paint is always a good idea!
